Frequently Asked Questions

How long does my subscription last?

A subscription to EYGS lasts for one year counted from the date of enrolment. Thus if you joined on July 14th 2005 then your membership would expire on July 14th 2006.However for magazine printing purposes we operate 4 cut-off points throughout the year. These are 31st January, 30th April, 31st July and 31st October. This situation arises because we do not hold back copies of the magazine.

Do you have Family subscriptions?

Yes. Two persons at the same address can share a subscription. This will only cost £10 (£15 overseas). Only one copy of the magazine will be sent to the registered address. We will process both person's interests and pedigrees.

When do I get my first Phoenix magazine?

The Phoenix is published four times each year on 1st March, 1st June, 1st September and 1st December. If you enrolled on the 14th July 2005 then your first Phoenix magazine would be issued around the 1st September 2005.In this case you would be invited to renew by 31st July 2006 to maintain magazine continuity.

As a subscriber, are my queries limited?

There is no limit to the number of queries that any subscriber can make. However, we would ask that you be both patient and reasonable when making your queries. Remember you are unlikely to be the only person we are dealing with at any one time.

How much do additional queries cost?

The real answer to this question is to ask yourself what is the value of the requested information. We have to make journeys to the various Record Offices etc. and often we have to pay car parking fees. We make no charge for our time but we do ask that our expenses are covered.

Can I get back issues of the Phoenix?

Although we supplied back copies initially, the costs of producing small quantities of this full colour magazine render "back copies" as uneconomic.

Do I have to subscribe to ask a query?

No. Anyone can ask and we will respond, but we do ask that you send a donation to cover your queries.

Do you do census searches?

Yes. You should in this case send your query to the Database Coordinator
